When I turned 30, I realized that I wanted more time with myself. If people asked me and my soon-to-be ex-husband why we decided to divorce, we always say that it’s a mutual decision. My friends and families were shocked when we announced that we are getting a divorce because we’ve been together since our college days. Luckily, there’s no shouting, crying and blaming when we decided to file for a divorce. It’s just that I need more time with myself, and so does he.

After deciding, we looked for the best divorce lawyer in Singapore to quickly process our papers so we can move on with our lives. We also considered the cost of divorce in Singapore. After all of this long process, I will study abroad in Hong Kong, while my ex-husband will pursue his culinary passion. So, let this article show my journey on how I deal with divorce gracefully.

Dealing With Divorce Gracefully

  1. Ask for Help

Well, my divorce from my ex-husband is not drama worthy. But, of course, I still need to ask for help from other people. The first thing we asked for help with, is the best divorce lawyer in Singapore to process our papers immediately. We asked for help from professionals because we want to move on with our lives this 2021 right away.

After that, we’ve also joined some support groups so we would know if we are 100% of our decision to separate. See, no complicated things are happening between us and no third party issues involved. We’ve just outgrown our relationship and we needed something new with our lives.

  1. Be Honest With My Feelings

Admittedly, there may not have been a third-party issue in our relationship, but I was still sad that we had come up with a decision to separate. Since our college days, we had talked about our future, but I guessed life has something more to offer in both of us. Yes, we’re going to miss the positive aspect of our relationship, however, we believe that we must have a divorce.

Of course, we also considered the cost of divorce in Singapore. The uncontested divorce cost ranges from $1,500 to $3,500, which makes me worried because it’s expensive. Well, I’ve been honest with my feelings talking with my friends and families. It helped me deal with my divorce as it’s new to me. A friend told me that I have to face my feelings and deal with them. That way, it will be easier for me to move on with my life.

  1. Forgiving Myself

First of all, we are just human beings, and it’s normal to change feelings as time goes. I’ve noticed that in our fifth year as a married couple we’ve lost the connection. Can you picture two people living in a small apartment but it feels like you’re far from each other? That’s how we felt.

Until last year, the pandemic happened. The lockdown forced us to stay together for months, and in that time, we’ve decided that our marriage is not going to work. After that, we decided to contact the best divorce lawyer in Singapore to process the papers when the covid situation improves.  See, being honest with your feelings will set you free from your current situation. Life is too short to stay in a situation that you don’t love.

  1. Focused on My Passion

As we are processing our papers with the best divorce lawyer in Singapore, I focused on my passion which is studying languages. I’ve taken some certification classes that will help me study abroad in Hong Kong. I’ve looked for Mandarin and Cantonese language classes, so I can prepare when the time comes.

This way, it has helped me a lot to focus on the brighter side of this situation. At first, we had a hard time to accept that we’re having a divorce. However, focusing on my passion helps me focus on the new beginnings in my life.

  1. Take Care Physical and Emotional Health

All of my close friends and family know that I go to the gym every weekend. However, during these past few months, I was too busy to take time on myself due to processing the papers with the best divorce lawyer in Singapore.

My parents thought that I was depressed. They even called our family lawyer to sue my ex-husband (he was part of our family when we got married). I would like to tell other couples who are also planning to have a divorce that they should take care of their physical and emotional health despite a busy schedule.
