3 Key Differences Between H1 and H2 Mathematics

Content

H1 Mathematics covers Statistics, Calculus and Graphs. Students train to understand and apply basic techniques of statistics as they get data. They would also analyse it before they could make decisions based on the result. 

On the other hand, H2 maths cover much complex and more advanced mathematics. It helps students to learn how they can analyse, formulate and answer different questions. The topics included in H2 Mathematics are:

Examinations

The composition of the examinations for H1 and H2 maths also differ. H1 maths papers are three hours long. It consists of 60-points statistics questions and a 35-points pure mathematics portion. On the other hand, H2 maths papers are two to three hours long. 70% of the exams deal with pure mathematics, while the 30% that remains is about statistics.

University Prospects

H2 maths is crucial for those that plan to take Medicine, Law, Dentistry, Advanced Sciences, Economics and Statistics in university. It can prepare students for computations that require a lot of data and statistical analysis. H1 maths is crucial for those that want to take business, social sciences and economics in university. Many students manage to pass their H2 maths courses, even if they do not have any background in A-level mathematics or have little supervision from a maths tutor.
